The most common of these are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A desire to be one\u2019s own boss and handle more responsibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A love of difficult challenges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The seeking of career independence as well as more control over life and its direction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A major \u2018life change\u2019 has occurred (i.e.: divorce, disability, job loss, pregnancy, retirement\u2026).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The entrepreneur has invented, developed, or innovated a new product or service.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A current job is going nowhere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Money has suddenly become available (i.e.: an inheritance, the lottery, the selling of assets\u2026).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An opportunity has made itself known (i.e.: a local business is up for sale; a group of people whose needs are not being met has been spotted; or a product people would pay for has been discovered).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Poor Reasons for Starting a Business<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following is a list of poor reasons for starting a business.&nbsp; Experienced professionals consider these to be poor motivators because, on their own, they\u2019re usually not enough to sustain long-term commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Desperation.\u00a0 Make no mistake, desperation is a powerful motivational stimulus.\u00a0 Yet it can also lead to poor judgment, rash decisions, and a dangerous leap into untested waters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is nothing else to do.\u00a0 Feeling that no other options are available shows a lack of commitment and passion \u2013 two essential elements that comprise successful entrepreneurship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is lots of money to be made.\u00a0 This is a pipe dream, and it\u2019s often fueled by media stories that highlight app\/software developers (or others) who struck it rich \u2018overnight\u2019.\u00a0 However, entrepreneurs must be realistic with their expectations and know the difference between making a one-time-only profit, making a living, and daydreaming.\u00a0 The vast majority of successful entrepreneurs make a living, not a fortune.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Owning a business will make life easier.\u00a0 Unfortunately, having a business usually increases one\u2019s responsibilities.\u00a0 That doesn\u2019t translate into making life easier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The entrepreneur can\u2019t work with others.\u00a0 If a wannabe entrepreneur can\u2019t work with other people then he or she is going to have countless problems dealing with customers, bankers, a landlord, suppliers, local or federal agencies, a parent company (if the entrepreneur is involved in a franchise) and the many other people who are often both directly and indirectly involved in private enterprise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Owning a business will provide more free time.\u00a0 Running a business is time consuming and life consuming.\u00a0 Every entrepreneur interviewed for this book stated that he or she worked longer and harder running their own business than they ever did working for someone else (see the time schedule chart on page 119, How Small Business Owners\/Managers Spend Their Time).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good Reasons for Thinking About Starting a Business Because starting-up a business can be difficult, it\u2019s a good idea for a beginner to have several good reasons as to why he or she would like to become an entrepreneur.&nbsp;
